Expressive Strikers Rock Toronto University
Striking professors and teaching assistants at Toronto's York University are blazing a path in the use of digital and conventional media in support of workplace activism.
The striking workers, members of Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3903, scored a huge victory after an 11 week strike in 2001 when a government-supervised final offer vote blew up on their employer.
As their current strike enters its fifth week, members of this highly democratic local are using a wide range of media - including video, blogs and more traditional print and artistic media - to get their message out to the community and to stay connected to each other.
A video series that borrows from the well known Apple PC vs. Mac television advertisement, was released online this week.
